The Poles (part 2)

Here are the poles, the actual poles for which this break is named. They draw the line between Hanna Park and the Mayport Naval Base. A surfer walks out to the ocean with his board.

I used to go to that area quite a bit when I was a teenager only we called it Seminole Beach. That was before Hanna Park. This is a beautiful picture!

Do you come back often? I bet you'd find that, other than the normal ways in which a city changes through the years, Jax Beach still has the same flavor, even many of the same landmarks. There are tons of buildings that have dotted 3rd street for as long as I can remember (early 80's, anyway). It's kind of nice that way. Makes it feel more like home, familiar.

I was there in June for my niece's wedding at St. Paul's By the Sea, which is the church I grew up in. When my grandmother moved there in the 1920's, it was called Pablo Beach. My father's side of the family is from Palm Valley and he grew up on Mickler Road--in fact I'm related to all the Micklers. Both of my parents graduated from Fletcher back in the 1940's. I have a lot of old pictures of the Beaches. My stepmother still lives there. It has changed quite a bit, but many things are still the same. I do miss living within walking distance of the beach!
